Initial test results show that Qualcomm's newly launched Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and Apple's A17 Pro are having fierce competition in terms of processing speed.
Qualcomm has just officially launched Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, its new generation high-end mobile chip model. This is the type of chip that will be equipped on high-end Android smartphone models launched at the end of this year or early next year.
As soon as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was introduced, the technology world and many users wondered whether Qualcomm's new chip could surpass the processing speed of the A17 Pro, the chip equipped by Apple on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro. 15 Pro Max, is also considered the most powerful mobile chip today.
Apple's A17 Pro and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is which?
Before comparing processing speed, let's compare the specifications of these two mobile chips.
Apple's A17 Pro chip is equipped with 6 processing cores, including 2 high-performance processing cores (clocked at 3.78GHz) and 4 energy-saving performance cores (clocked at 2.11GHz). A17 Pro is the world's first chip built on the 3nm process, helping to increase performance and save energy.
While Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is still built on the 4nm process, in return this chip is equipped with more processing cores (8 cores), including one super high performance processing core (3.3GHz), 5 high-performance cores (3 cores clocked at 3.2GHz and 2 cores clocked at 3.0GHz), plus 2 energy-efficient processing cores clocked at 2.3GHz.
If Apple's A17 Pro chip has an advantage in manufacturing process and maximum clock speed of the processing core, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip has an advantage in the number of processing cores. So when comparing the processing speed of these two high-end mobile chips, which product will win?
Recently, the results of scoring the processing speed of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip have just appeared on Geekbench and AnTuTu, the two most commonly used smartphone processing performance evaluation tools today.
